What is Mastering?
Mastering is the final stage of production and is the process of preparing your song for distribution.
A mastering engineer may apply eq, compression, and saturation to refine a mix and give it that polished sound you hear on so many commercial releases. A mastering engineer may also make decisions in an albums sequencing and dictate the overall loudness from song to song across an album.
Do I NEED Mastering?
The simple answer: YES!
If you plan to upload your song for distribution and have it compete against other commercial mixes, you will absolutely need to have your song mastered. A mastering engineer can also provide an outside ear to help filter problems with your mix and make sure you're putting out the best final product possible.
